Dino Adventures at Field Station: Dinosaurs in NJ
If you have a little dinosaur enthusiast at home, you need to visit Field Station: Dinosaurs in Bergen County's Overpeck County Park. This unique park, open from summer until late fall, is our family's favorite spot, especially for our son, Eli, who eagerly awaits its opening every year.
Since 2019, when Eli first showed an interest in dinosaurs, we've made it a tradition to explore the life-sized dinosaur animatronics surrounded by lush greenery. It's like stepping into the Jurassic era, with towering T-rexes and gentle Brachiosauruses creating a thrilling and educational experience for kids and adults alike.
The park isn't just about viewing these incredible creatures; it's packed with activities that keep kids engaged all day. One of our must-see shows is the "T-rex Feeding Frenzy," where kids learn about the science of dinosaurs through fun songs and interactive performances. Eli can't get enough of the "Dino Dig," a massive sand pit where children can dig for hidden fossils like real paleontologists. Another favorite is the "Paleo Lab," where kids use tools to excavate real fossils, offering a hands-on learning experience.
The park’s newly renovated “Ampitheater” where you can watch multiple shows throughout the day!
New attractions are added regularly, with the latest being the "Jurassic Zoo Bouncer," a huge inflatable bouncer filled with dinosaur-themed fun. While adults aren't allowed in the bouncer, it's a hit with the kids, providing endless entertainment.

The park also offers a small concession stand selling fries, chicken tenders, and ice cream, perfect for keeping hungry kids happy.

One of the most exciting parts of our visits is collecting stamps in the "credentials" book given at the entrance. Kids get a stamp for each activity they complete, and after collecting six stamps, they receive a sticker, officially becoming part of the park's "super paleontologists." Eli is proud to have collected six of these credentials over the years.

Despite its modest size, Field Station: Dinosaurs offers a full day's worth of fun. We typically spend around 2.5 to 3 hours there, enjoying all the shows and activities. Whether you're a local or just visiting, this park is a must-see for any dinosaur lover. Don't forget to wear plenty of sunscreen, as most attractions are outdoors.
Plan your visit to Field Station: Dinosaurs and create unforgettable memories with your family. It's a dino-mite adventure that kids will remember for years to come!
