If you're planning a visit to the vibrant city of Milan and are in search of a luxurious and convenient place to stay, look no further than the Excelsior Hotel Gallia. As part of Marriott's prestigious Luxury Collection, this five-star hotel has a lot to offer, and my recent stay there left me with some unforgettable memories.
We arrived in Milan just past noon, a little ahead of the hotel's official check-in time of 3 PM. However, to our pleasant surprise, our room was ready and waiting for us as soon as we arrived. This early check-in set a positive tone for our stay and allowed us to freshen up after our journey without any delay.
Even before our arrival, I had several interactions with the hotel's concierge, and I must say, their assistance was impeccable. They were not only helpful but also exceedingly polite, making our pre-arrival arrangements smooth and stress-free.
The staff at Excelsior Hotel Gallia were consistently courteous and delightful throughout our stay. Their warm hospitality and willingness to assist with any requests greatly enhanced our experience. It's evident that the hotel places a strong emphasis on delivering top-notch customer service.
Upon entering our room, we were greeted with a delightful surprise – a bottle of champagne and a sumptuous chocolate cake, accompanied by a lovely welcome note. This thoughtful gesture immediately made us feel valued as guests.

The room itself was spacious and elegant, with a bathroom that was undoubtedly one of the largest we've ever encountered in a hotel. The deep soaking tub was a highlight, providing a luxurious way to unwind after a day of exploring the city. It's safe to say that Eli, my companion, thoroughly enjoyed it!
As we explored the hotel further, we were captivated by the festive atmosphere in the lobby. Even though the holiday season had passed, the hotel's enchanting holiday decorations transported us back to Christmas, evoking a sense of joy and wonder.
One of the highlights of our stay was undoubtedly the breakfasts at Excelsior Hotel Gallia. The extensive breakfast spread offered a wide variety of options, including eggs, bacon, olives, an assortment of breads and bagels, fresh fruits, pancakes, waffles, and a make-your-own juice station with an array of fresh vegetables and fruits. And let's not forget the exceptional cappuccinos and espressos – they were simply the best! I highly recommend indulging in these delightful beverages; they're a treat for coffee lovers.
On one occasion, when we were pressed for time in the morning, the restaurant staff efficiently prepared our coffees to-go and provided us with several boxes to pack our breakfast for our busy day ahead. Their attentiveness to our needs was much appreciated.
Wonderful morning view
As guests of the Fine Hotels and Resorts collection with Amex, we enjoyed some additional perks, including late check-out at 4 PM, a $135 in-room credit, and early check-in. While we didn't receive any room upgrades on this occasion, the standard room we were provided with was lovely and comfortable, so we had no complaints.
The comfort of the bed and the overall cleanliness and immaculateness of the room were certainly praiseworthy. However, it's worth noting that the room did show some signs of wear and tear, with noticeable scratches on the wooden drawers and fabric on the headboard that had seen better days. While these minor issues could be addressed in a 5-star hotel, we were not overly fussy about them as long as the room remained clean and the staff continued to be attentive and welcoming.
View of the Central Station from our room
Excelsior Hotel Gallia's location is also worth mentioning. Situated on the outskirts of Milan's city center, it boasts a prime location right across from the central train station, a mere 2-minute walk away. This proximity was extremely convenient for us, especially when we took the train to Florence and used the metro to access the iconic Duomo and other attractions.
Bottom Line
our stay at Excelsior Hotel Gallia in Milan was a memorable one. From the friendly and accommodating staff to the spacious and well-appointed rooms, as well as the scrumptious breakfast offerings, this hotel exceeded our expectations in many ways. While the room did show some signs of aging, it did not detract significantly from our overall experience. If we were to visit Milan again, we would not hesitate to choose Excelsior Hotel Gallia as our home away from home. Its combination of luxury, convenience, and exceptional service make it a standout choice in this vibrant Italian city.
